The negativity and unpleasantness was brought up by the one that blamed the victim, an innocent 78 year old man suggesting that he "was involved in something". He was involved in going to the dentist.. My theory of resentment didn't blame the victim.

If this forum processes to have an ounce of credibility then we owe it to those reading here and making a future decision to be honest. The people who live in Chapala are in full blown damage control and lying as well as denying what is really happy there. But we need to be truthful. From a report today....
NEWS UPDATE: Ajijic/Chapala: 1. Chapala Police Chief has resigned (in position 6 months). 2. Jalisco is supposedly sending more Police. They have yet to appear 3. SEVEN amphibious Police arrested for selling drugs and possession of illegal weapons. 4. Graffiti posted in La Floresta threatening the new Mayor. (From --- Lake Chapala Reporter - subscription news site - cannot re-post links).

About a week ago the news spoke of Banners posted with messages to AMLO saying if he did not do as they (cartel and or gangs) wanted then innocent people will die. That is exactly what is happening with these random mmurders amongst expats in the lake Chalapa area. A large expat community. Crimes against Expats bring international publicity which will harm Mexico’s tourism industry and discourage investors. There may also be more behind the scenes issues involved. I watched Narcos (not ment to be funny). It does expose the interlinks between government, cartel/gangs, developers etc. Some innocent. Some not. Everyone -including the innocent expats - plays a part in their strategies.

Oh my goodness, this thread has gotten to the point of ridiculousness. An area with a population of around 60,000 which is probably much higher today, since that figure was made years ago, is having a crime wave. In the past 2 weeks we have had like 6 or 7 murders. The local Mexicans say that most of the murders were of people who "andaban en malos pasos" or people that were from the more turbid side of society, possibly cholos who sold drugs and the like. Now we have people comparing Lake Chapala to Iraq (read the other web boards) and others saying that Lake Chapala has become a war zone. How about ask the people that live here! I live here for one! 6 or 7 or maybe 10 murders in a population this size sounds like any city in the USA for a two week stretch. Honest Anna mentions all the expats being murdered and Zorro says that the local Mexicans will soon turn on the expats and will begin killing them off one by one. Honestly Honest Anna, how many expats have been murdered here in the last two years or five? The Canadian guy was innocent according to my private sources, but he was also murdered execution style. I will go further and say that I won't say all that I have heard because I can't prove it, but I heard that he sued a rich powerful Mexican and he won. The rich Mexican wasn't very happy, so he had him dispatched to the other side. Sounds like Chicago, I know, but I can't prove any of that. But his widow, I assume, knows the truth. And of course Lake Chapala is polluted, what popular lake is not polluted today? On the North Shore where the expats mostly reside, you will not see sickly children dying from kidney disease, the kids here are very healthy. In this area the people are educated enough to know not to drink the water from the lake or from their taps. Everybody drinks filtered water. There are poor, uneducated, and sorry to say, indigenous communities that do not have the same resources and finances as the people from the city, and they drink the well water and lake water, unfiltered. They are poor people that do not have money to buy bottled water or filtered water. In Chapala and Ajijic everybody drinks bottled water here or have reverse osmosis water filtering systems in their home. Just don't drink the tap water, and you will be fine. Problem solved! And if you are worried about being murdered, don't buy drugs from the cartel, don't associate with them, don't piss off rich people, don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong, and you will probably be safer living here at Lake Chapala than in most cities in the USA. Most killings here are targeted killings, in the USA they are random killings. What Zorro doesn't know, because he doesn't live here, is that the expat community is out and about on a daily basis, you walk down the streets in Chapala or in Ajijic, the expats are all out walking everywhere eating at out all the cafes and restaurants, we are not hovering in fear in our homes. It is another day as usual here. It is just like in the States when you read on the news that there was another shootout somewhere, you don't hide in your home, you just go and live your life as normal!
