Donald Trump, current president of the U.S., is a madman and anyone paying even the slightest attention knows that. Those unwilling to admit this are enabling his lunacy and normalizing behaviors that are not and should be considered normal. You are standing by and cheering as trump and his minions destroy democracy in the U.S. You are in the minority and be assured, those of us in the majority that see what you and your orange demigod are doing to our country will not forgive or forget anytime soon.

That you still support this cretin after a year and a half of this administration says as much about you as it does about POTUS 45. That you watch and cheer as he lies, so often and so unconvincingly, says that you have no respect for concepts like honor and integrity. But the majority of us do respect these things and we, therefore, have no respect for you.

That you say nothing and do nothing as this administration institutes a policy of abusing children in order to punish their parents for minor infractions of immigration law says that you have no human decency. But the vast majority of us are decent human beings and we cannot respect anyone who would condone such abhorrent behavior.

That you make and / or believe the most contorted and outrageous excuses for a U.S. president that behaves like horny schoolgirl in the presence of the Russian dictator says that you are willing to overlook the fact that the very fabric of U.S. democracy, free and fair elections, has been attacked by a hostile, foreign power. The majority of Americans, those of us who still know what actual patriotism means, are appalled and we will not accept this attack, nor the man who benefitted from it, nor those who continue to support this illegitimate administration.

That you allow your tribal instincts to overrule your better judgement is not something that we, the majority of right-thinking Americans, will ever tolerate. You can tout statistics on the economy all you want; just remember that Mussolini made the trains run on time. But he was still a madman and the Italian people still paid the price for allowing his reign to exist.

Exactly. Why give anyone the benefit of a doubt when it is obviously not deserved by all the evidence put forth.

It's all that and more, dw. I can't even fit the Trump phenomenon into a political context, because American politics has some rules based on the Constitution and over two centuries of tradition. But such political rules don't seem to apply in this case. Trump's popularity bottoms out at 35-40% and nothing he does can make those lose their faith. Trumpism is at least as much theological as political, so logic won't deter their worship of the Golden Buey. Just be sure to vote in November.

Trumps base is wearing blinders and earplugs.

And look who follows in Trumps shoes if he is ousted from office.

Pence is not my choice for POTUS since he is, among other things, a religious demagogue, but I can't see any evidence that he is just plain crazy, like Trump.

Face it, congressional Republicans have yielded power to Trump, disturbingly similar to the German Reichstag's Enabling Act of 1933. Trump will be in the WH at least til Jan, 2021 unless Dems take over congress, in which case everything changes. The best scenario that comes to mind is that the 116th congress gets down to bidness on January 3rd and Articles of Impeachment is the first thing on the agenda. If that goes well, we can make Pence the new Jerry Ford (except Ford was actually a decent guy), and send him off to play golf as long as he doesn't try to govern.

Erdogan, Duterte, Kim Jong Un, Putin - dictators Trump went out of his way to meet or give praise. Trump seems to be drawn to the dictator personality - of which lately he seems to be demonstrating - desire to remove security credentials from high level intelligence agency officials, banning a reporter from open WH briefing and wanting to ban more reporters from press events - these actions are the actions a dictator would take to 'be in and maintain control'.

While Trump's threat is childish, petulent and therefor totally in character, I was surprised to learn that retired or non-active "high level intelligence agency officials" would still have their security clearance. I was a very low-level federal government desk jockey,, but they took away my security clearances before the door hit my behind on the way out, when I retired.

But Trump has raised a good question. Should an unstable loonie like him really be entrusted with security credentials?

Trump's carrot and stick

Trump's "olive branches" to North Korea and Iran:

"Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!"

"North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening ... and as I said they will be met with fire, fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before."

To Iranian President Rouhani: "NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!"

"Oh, and before I forget.....I hope I can depend on you folks to support my bid for the Nobel Peace Prize."

Trumps tweets and 'fire storm' statements are a joke to the world, IMO.

His interactions with world figures is not like the Kennedy-Khrushchev conflict - in which both parties were on the brink of war.
