Me either, Mr. Phillips turned them down, saying he would not use his talents to convey a message of support for same-sex marriage as that would clash with his religious faith. The couple say they were humiliated by Mr. Phillips’s refusal to serve them, and they filed a complaint with Colorado’s civil rights commission.

Instead of just going to another bakery.

I have to wonder how hard they would be pursuing this if there was no monetary award to be gained, only their time and money as well to make their point?

I happen to agree with the baker on this one, and it's beyond me why the customer literally is making a "federal case" of it. IMO, A merchant should have the right to refuse service to anyone, especially if he isn't the only one in town offering the service.

However, the Zorro rant above is from the same guy who would probably like to prevent a 14 year old girl who has been raped from getting a legal abortion because of HIS religious beliefs.

Please keep the dialogue civil on this thread on Christmas Day. As a gift to myself, I am refusing to wade into any controversies aired on La Chatarrería today! ¡Mil gracias!

I did allow myself to get drawn into the wedding cake kerfuffle, regretted it and tried to post a very toned down edit, but was past the time limit to do so. Asked for permission to post it but haven't heard back. So I will accept a "grinch" award.

May the hardworking mods on here (whose patience throughout the year has somehow survived through trying circumstances) have a very Happy New Year!

Lagoloo, my comment was a general one, not addressed to any of the participants in this thread in particular.

Will and I thank you for your appreciation of the spirit in which we carry out our moderator duties. ¡Feliz y Próspero Año Nuevo to you and yours!

No, I didn't think I was being singled out, in a group of generally provocative messages (grin).

And thank you for the good wishes.

Six years into his presidency Obama was still blaming Bush for his terrible numbers. One year into Trump's administration Obama is now trying to take credit for Trump's great numbers. Funny how that works.

While I believe that discriminating against anyone based on the color of their skin, their religion, or their sexual orientation is ignorant and repugnant behavior, I also agree that someone in private business should be allowed to refuse service to anyone they choose.

Hey guys, yes shout me down as I am only a lowly Aussie but I seem to remember thinking at the time of the US elections, 300 plus million souls and these are the only candidates on offer? Both appear poor choices no different to what is on offer here. Have our countries prospered at the expense of war? We Aussies will always go in with the US but is/was it always necessary? The final clincher is about to unfold.

OMO.

Cheers, Steve.
