We didn't pay to ship the electrical items, per se, as the cost for a 90% full 40ft container was the same as for a 95% full container; or another way, if we'd have not brought our small electrical items then the cost would have been the same. We're currently renovating our house and installing solar panels that will more than cover all our electricity costs moving forward, so the negligible differences in electrical consumption between the small, infrequently-used electrical items we brought from the US and their European counterparts is not an issue for us.

As I said in my post, I'm just relating our experience. We'd read a lot of opinions telling us to sell all of our electricals and we're glad we ignored that for the items I detailed in my post. Would 100% agree that TV's, fridges, hi-fi equipment have their own rules - but the small kitchen items, computer equipment, and lamps - we're glad we brought them. Once we were out for a 40ft container, there was little reason not to, for us at least.
