Default Car insurance for English registered car

I'm just wondering who everybody uses. I normally us a company called Italsure. You get your documents in English. I've just bought a new car and am thinking of looking at what else is around in the market. SO what are some popular companies?

How are you registering your car in England if you're living (and insuring it) in France?
Cheers,
Bev

We spend the winter in the UK and don't have proof of permanent address to register the car in France.

I would think that if your permanent residence is in the UK, then you'd normally get your car insurance in the UK, then. Back in the early days of the EU, there were great hopes for allowing people to buy their auto insurance anywhere within the EU - but somehow it just never happened.
Cheers,
Bev

I have a feeling that as your car is registered in the UK the insurance must be in the UK - there is I believe a time limit in France concerning local insurance for a non French car, 3 months max I believe. When I imported a classic car two years ago my insurance (MAIF) told me I had a maximum of 3 months cover then would need French documents and plates for the car.
Best,
Michael
