Default Long Term Letting in France

Hello there,

This is my first post on here but have found plenty usefull info already!!

I am thinking of moving to France towards the end of July with my wife and daughter, and I am having a bit of a hard time finding somewhere to rent for the 6 or 12 months I am going for.

We are looking to base ourselves somewhere in the Chamonix valley, if anyone knows where the best place to look for this duration of Let is, then any suggestions would be apreciated, whether it be websites or any other organisations, payable or not.

Cheers!!

oooooooo you've picked a bad time; not sure what is good time, but in that area, places are being let short-term for summer, and come winter, short-term for skiing - and that adds up to VERY expensive.

Sites I know of are seloger.com, pap.fr and leboncoin.fr, but imho you're going to have an uphill task.

Nightmare!!!! I did think about that situation and thats probably part of the reason it has been difficult finding many long term lets in that area.

I will more than likely have to widen my search area which isnt much of a problem. Thanks for the websites you gave me I'll have a good look around them.

Cheers hils!!

The other issue you may run into is the French notion of "long term" vs. the UK notion of the same. If you're looking for a furnished place, you wind up paying by the week (usually) as they fall under the same rules as a hotel or guest house.

An unfurnished home normally comes with a 3 year lease (though you can terminate the lease with proper notice).
Cheers,
Bev
