Default Shipping a motorcycle with no title

I'm trying to figure out the best way to ship my motorcycle from New York to France. My motorcycle has a custom fabricated frame that I have no title for (I've been attempting to get a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin for it, however the guy who created the frame has not yet provided it). The motorcycle is purely used on private property, so having no title/registration in the US has not bothered me.

What possibilities do I have for importing this to France? Is there anyway to ship it as one piece, or perhaps to break it down and ship it as parts? All of the companies I have contacted so far said they can't ship it without a title, but some have said they can ship it as parts (one went so far as to say I could just drop the motor and that would be enough to claim it as parts) but since I'm not familiar with this process I'm wary that some may be lying to get my business and then will hang me out to dry once I arrive in France and customs wants paperwork that I simply do not have.

I don't know how you're going to get it licensed and registered in France without a title as they will want certified proof that you are indeed the owner and I don't think a bill of sale is going to cut it.

If you still plan to ship it, it's best to talk to the French Consulate to get an answer. You should be able to email the The Consulate in New York as it was possible in DC, but I recommend you actually talk to someone as they may not fully understand the question and just pass on their link for shipping vehicles. Information for private individuals - Importing a Private Vehicle into France from Canada or the U.S. - France in the United States/ Embassy of France in Washington.

Ask the person you are speaking with if it would be OK to send them an email paraphrasing what they told you that they can respond to. It's better to have something in writing than nothing.

Are you shipping household goods? If the bike is to be disassembled and shipped with your household goods, there's a high probability your shipment won't be physically inspected as they don't have enough inspectors to inspect every shipping container, according to the French shipping liaison that handled our move.

Like I say, you're still going to have to figure out how you're going to get it licensed and registered.

Good Luck.

Thank you!

I don't have any plans to have it registered - it is only used on private property and after asking some fellow riders living in France it appears you can get insurance strictly for use on private property without having a title.

Yes, the idea would be to ship our two bikes torn down with the rest of our household goods. Some movers were very confident that it'd be fine to go as parts, we were just worried we'd end up with some angry customs agent staring at us going "parts?" as we have two full motorcycles parted out in a crate.

You will definitely have major problems without all the paperwork a 'normal' ( sorry) motrcycle will have with it.

I know that - with cars - anything vaguely non-standard has to pass 'les mines' - which is french for SVA. Importing a box of bits is no problem - very easy in fact with a motorcycle
