Default Travel Information Help

Would like to ask the Forum members concerning travel into France. We are hearing that it may be mid 2021 before the boarders are opened. Considering my wife is a EU National and we are legally married with all the documentation to show and prove this any idea would we be allowed to enter France before the restrictions are lifted? Thank you very much for any helpful reply's.

Are you talking about entering France for a "visit" (i.e. tourism) or to settle in France? It may also be relevant where you are coming from, regardless of your wife's nationality.

You and your wife can legally travel to Belgium now. From there you can travel to France. As to whether that last bit is legal or not, I won’t try to answer. But, it can obviously easily be done, no one is checking.

Though that could change and their could be another lockdown, either in Belgium or France. Much depends on when the OP plans to move - it is very much a moving target even within Schengen.

As things stand at the moment, the OP and his wife would have to quarantine on arrival and, of course, they would be tested for the virus.

But if they move later in the year, who knows.

Perhaps keep an eye on these sites.

I don't believe it will be possible for them to enter France from the US in the near future, so coming via Belgium would indeed seem appropriate and they would have quarantined before entering France, provided there is no closure of Schengen borders.

Thank you berkinet. That was our plan to fly into Brussels Belgium first then cross over into Lille France. As things stand on this moment we would like to make our move shortly after February 2021. Of course everything depends on the control of the Virus. Thank you for your help!!

It would likely also be a good idea to monitor the US (Embassy?) site that deals with travel restrictions for Belgium (I did see it, but didn't save it) because it talks about availability of flights and paperwork required.

Also keep an eye on this Frech site

https://www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus/vacances

And you should also check the site for the commune where you plan to live as certain restrictions such as mask wearing and lockdown will be by commune for the foreseeable future.

Thank you for your kind words, TommyTW.

The reason I am giving you all these links is that, given the virus is taking off again in France (and Belgium, which was originally very hard hit by the virus in terms of population, is that things could deteriorate post September (la rentrée) and that any time from mid January would be the least damaging economically for France to again go into lockdown. I hope that doesn't happen but think it is quite likely.
