Thanks: I do a lot of miles wit AF for my work to and from sub-Saharan Africa but for London it means connecting through Paris from Toulouse and BA are at least selling seats from mid-May direct, although they may well cancel: if I can eventually travel I'm interested in minimising my exposure en route so TLS direct then my car is way preferable. I can isolate for 14 days no problem once there. I'm still astonished it's not a legal requirement for those entering UK as it has been in Australia, NZ and Canada, where at least in the first two countries arriving travellers are locked up for two weeks in hotels. Perhaps France will do something similar.

Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks again, particularly Everhopeful and berkinet, mayor's attestation did the trick - a bit of persuasion was required at CDG with the PAF to accept the letter, although AF in London seemed to be more interested in utility bills. There were some Brits, apparently kids of resident parents chancing it and being turned away at the gate. Anyway, I'm back in the Gers, in 2 weeks voluntary self-isolation, the cat survived and I have a lot of grass to cut.

We have a house in France (Savoie) we do not own a house in the UK. We are currently trapped in London in a rental as we cannot see a way of getting to France right now due to the restrictions.
The house in France is NOT our permanent residence as we have only owned it for 8 months but we would be far happier to be there rather than the UK. Happy to fully lockdown in it and stay as long as it takes as we fully intend to make it the perm residence.
Question is, has anyone tried to drive back to their French house lately ? Is it possible ?
We have utility bills in our name etc for the french house so can prove it's ours, would this be enough to allow travel by car or plane ?
PS: We are both virus clear
Did you manage to travel? See my contribution later in this thread: I have just returned to my house, which is indeed my primary residence and the only roof over my head, having written to the mayor explaining my circumstances asking for an 'attestation de domicile' in advance of applying for a CdS. I expect if you want to drive, particularly with a UK reg car, it will be much harder at the frontier.
