Default Coronaivirus for Aussies (and kiwis)

I am starting a new thread that could interest Aussies and perhaps Kiwis.

Exclamation MyGov Australia

For those who used MyGov (eg. for pensions) and I am a bit late on advising

Because of measures taken in Australia and measures to protect at least some of the vulnerable; MyGov is under extreme pressure, to the point that the huge number of people trying to access it triggered alerts associated with a cyberattack - it wasn't. This has caused major issues for the most vulnerable and Australia is endeavouring to protect them as a priority.

If you have vulnerable family members, including students there, please do not worry.

Please try to avoid accessing MyGov for the next few days, the site is under extreme pressure and any benefits you receive should not be affect.

ABC News (Australia) distributed great news re the situation there and you can receive their information in via email for free.

Exclamation Resources that could help you

I encourage you to subscribe to ABC News Australia, it is free and you can receive updates direct to your email account.

They have a live update, and a blog, though at some hours their resources are stretched. But you really need to subscribe to get their emails in your inbox, because that way you will get more up to date advice whilst they endeavour to include that across everything.

BTW that is how I saw an interesting article about an Australian couple who were on the MSC cruise ship that was allowed to dock at Marseille to allow French citizens to disembark. They were disgusted with people who were actually fighting to try to take the place of French citizens. They themselves didn't know what would happen when the ship arrived at Genoa, they boarded early March, but were still able to show compassion for those citizens arriving in their home country.

I've been giving friends there up to date information about what they can expect and how to protect themselves more from lessons learnt/or not learnt from what is happening in France and Europe in general. Many have been grateful for the heads up. I always watch ABC live whenever I can. Seems most States are ahead of Sco Mo who is very reluctant to use the word 'lockdown' as if he has been asked to swear at a nun's convention.

So have I, i have family and close friends there in various States and Territories. However I still suggest you subscribe to ABC News to get it in your mailbox - I can assure you I see stuff that even they don't see (I share key things with a comment) and ScoMo has now taken action, thank God for that. I see things that aren't captured in the live update (things are moving very fast). I also have a bit of insider information via someone there, which of course I can't mention/clarify here.

At last! (I am very anti ScoMo and have always voted against the LNP in its various forms over time).

I don't blame you when you hear that everybody is advised to stay home then hear that Queensland intends to hold elections this weekend with their chief medical officer saying that it is completely safe for people to go out and vote. WHAT THE FFFFFF...............! Another case of clear and conflicting messaging. I really fear for Oz.

Exactly - driving me insane! I am a Gold Coaster, most of my friends live on the Gold or Sunny Coasts. Some are really into confinement, others much less. One friend has been against the local government elections on Saturday for weeks. Hope they don't go out to vote. As for Tom Tate (Gold Coast Mayor) he is no brighter nor less self-interested than he ever was. And how do you close the Queensland border with NSW, esp in places like Coolangatta, where you cross one of the main streets and you cross the border, or just go round the corner, etc.?

And talk about double messaging

I also have immediate family in Sydney and the ACT.

Good to see that Australia has announced that it is clamping down on foreign investers raiding struggling companies and buying them up in this time of crisis. I mentioned in another thread that this is what the wealthy do: lay low, check the markets, buy up then wait.
