Hi
I'm a Yoga Instructor/Marine Biologist/Artist (got to earn money where you can) and I've just moved to Argeles-sur-Mer, with my french partner. Although I speak french fluently I'm finding it hard to intergrate into the community and was wondering if there were any other expats in the area who would like to meet up for a cup of tea?

Welcome to the forum!

I can't help with finding expats but your post struck a chord - I remember just how hard it is to settle down for the first couple of years even if you speak good French.

It does get easier, you just have to give yourself time. Argeles is a beautiful spot and I'm sure you will find some anglophones in the area.

So I wish you well in your new life, and hope you will be very happy.

One thing you may want to try is contacting the AVF group in Perpignan. https://avf.asso.fr/perpignan/

AVF is a group for newcomers to an area and they host activities and meet ups for newly arrived French and foreigners. It can be a good way to integrate yourself into a new area or at least to meet some folks and then you take it from there.

Yes, understand entirely. Smeggie, as usual, has made a good suggestion. I live near Prades....1 hour from you, but you are welcome here for coffee, apéro etc. I want to go shopping in Spain in the next week or so, I could drop in to see you?

If you think the distance is just too much then please say so.

DejW...

Can I ask where you go shopping in Spain? Do you go to La Jonquera or further in?

Yes, La Jonkie...I note they have repaired the lamp posts there. They don't need all those scantily clad young ladies to hold them up.

Honestly, I go just for the cheaper prices, esp drinkies, but also Brit hob nob biscuits carefully packaged as "digestives".

We could meet in a café in the big shopping centre gran Jonquera, if we could identify and agree suitable shop?

Not sure of the date yet, next week is a bit complicated for me. Will sort it out by the weekend.

Make a few more posts and we can communicate by private message in this forum.
