Default Orange stopping Bouquet Anglais

I have just received a e-mail from my ISP Orange that in early July the "Bouquet Anglais", that is English Language TV stations such as BBC, Sky and France 24 News in English and some other Anglophone ones will come to an end. For me this will be a major inconvenience. No reason was given and I wonder of this is sour grapes owing to the Brexit?

There are many British people in France who no doubt make use of these channels especially those in the Toulouse area working in Aviation related industries.

Has anyone else had that e-mail?

I wonder if I should discontinue the cable TV from Orange but keep their Internet service, and change to Sky TV as I am sure they will have English Speaking channels?

It's not to do with Brexit but rather competition between French providers and who has rights to what and under what terms other providers can use them. Your best bet is to check what other providers can offer. I think Altice has lots of the rights, so perhaps check with SFR.

Just checked and found that I have the English channels you mention on SFR (I don't actually watch English TV). They also have some other English language channels which are not included in my subscription, although i could get them by paying a little extra.

There is a list here of the channels you can get https://alloforfait.fr/tv/sfr

Hm, that's interesting. Free includes CNN, Sky News, BBC News and France 24 in English in their "basic" package. But then again, Free's "basic" package - as well as all their add-on packages - is organized by Canal Plus.

But check that letter again. When I looked up the Bouquet anglais online https://boutique.orange.fr/tv/bouquet-anglophone
it looks like they may just be charging for 9 English language channels - but none of them are the news channels. BBC Entertainment is NOT the BBC news channel. And Fox News is definitely NOT news.

I suspect that they still have CNN and BBC News on the basic package, like all the other satellite and Internet providers seem to do.

So does that me Free has resolved its major dispute with Altice?

If Orange are now charging for English channels, that likely means they have agreed to pay the additional charge for Altice services. Altice has a monopoly on many of them, including Netflix.

BTW, as ISP contracts for certain services come to an end, Altice is changing the terms and conditions.

I know there was some hassle a couple months ago when we lost a couple channels on the Freebox (allegedly because they were going to be uniquely available on SFR), but we've picked up a few new channels.

Honestly, I watch very little TV these days as it is. I watch my Netflix stuff on my tablet, not on the TV. But I really should take a look at the "Flash Info" thing on the Freebox again to see if there are any other station changes coming up.

Just checked. Canal Plus, owned by Vivendi, has entered into an agreement with Altice.

You could always look at Freesat for your UK channels Once you have the box and dish there are no subscriptions and then perhaps ditch Orange in favour of a cheaper phone/internet supplier? Ino longer have a fixed phone I just use the smartphone which is logged into to the router then use Whats App for calls to friends family etc all over the world

I find most of the UK tv programmes I like to watch are available on Youtube. I have downloaded all 12 series of Would I lie to You, for example. I intend to watch them again when my memory starts to go. I've also reached the age when Radio 4 is great.

Yes, I love Freesat. I got my 40 quid Manhattan box (that I brought with me) up & running simply by adjusting the dish that was already in place.

Better reception than I had in England!

Not sure if a French Freesat box would work on the same satellite, or if the frequencies are different.

The only thing I regret with the box is not paying more for one with a recorder.
My favourites are always on at mealtimes!
