I just received an email saying: "We don't want to lose you! Canada has a new anti-spam law that may affect our ability to send you information that you may be interested in receiving. To continue to receive emails and other electronic communications containing Expat Forum For People Moving Overseas And Living Abroad information, updates, newsletters, and other promotional materials, please indicate your consent by clicking the button below."

The sender's address is: <[email protected]>

I just wanted to check to make sure this was legit before I go pressing any buttons. Can't be too careful nowadays as I'm sure you well know.

Please confirm.

Thanks.

Don't click anything. I'm going to transfer your message to the "Expat Forum Support/Site Help" forum and see what the other mods have to say about this.

I'm pretty sure this is legit, but it won't affect your membership on the forum, just your ability to receive the notification emails from them.

I've been getting the same e-mails from various organizations which send me regular promotional or informational e-mails. You were smart not to click on a link without being sure, though! I wouldn't put it past some of the malicious cyber-types out there to try to piggy-back on something legitimate to get people to click on an unsafe link.

Here is a link to a Government of Canada website about this (the website is geared towards advising organizations and businesses on what they need to know to be in compliance).

Hey there,

There is a new law in Canada, in affect July 1st, that is protecting individuals against receiving spam. You will be receiving a notice about granting permission on receiving notifications from us because of this. We also turn off the email to friend option as well to conform to the new law against spam.

I do apologize for this confounding post.

Thank you and have a great weekend

is this only going to members in Canada, or to everyone, since the forum is based in Canada?

OK, so just to be certain, is your notice coming from <[email protected]> with a really big "Yes, I Consent" button in it?

I believe they all are a bit different . They will take you to the page where you will have to add your name and email as a consent to be able to send you notifications

Thank you.
