Thanks for the info LF..it's all sorted out now.

Perhaps major changes should be announced in each forum...I never look at the announcement forum!

Hey, you got yourself sorted out well before I did! I've been effectively locked out of the forums all day. Finally stumbled onto the right combination of clicks, thumps and secret high signs to get back in here - and now am struggling to figure out which password I generated is supposed to work.

I just hope we haven't lost too many folks in all this confusion.
Cheers,
Bev

Patience, determination and a terrible sense of humour worked for me

Bev, Please delete DejW_lost....I don't want the confusion and a duplicate account.

You can READ the forum as a visitor, so why not post a sticky for those who are also lost in cyberspace.

I have to say that I appreciate the management's approach to security and passwords etc, but a bit more publicity might be a good idea?

Thank you for all your modding work....we are all very grateful.

DejW

I'll certainly pass along your comments to TPTB. We all got caught short in this one - though it appears this was a reaction (and a legally mandated one, at that) to some sort of security breach by the company that owns the forum. More than that I don't really know.
Cheers,
Bev

Lucky you DejW! I only managed to get in half an hour ago - didn't receive the email with the password at all. Fortunately there was a message on the page when I tried for the umpteenth time saying that everyone had to reset their passwords. Would have been nice to know before it actually happened. I was about to dump the forum altogether. I understand that things can go unexpectedly wrong, but some kind of advance advice (eg. in the same way they have now advised re resetting of the password) would have been nice.

You were privileged - you were sent a password. Many of us weren't and have been struggling to get in all day. I thought I'd been banned!!

I was sent one too, about four hours after I requested one but when I tried to reset it and put in a new one that I could actually remember, it said it was incorrect when I tried to log in, but then I got in anyway!? But I am now confused as to which one I have, the reset one or my own updated one.

We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,
Helena

Seems you are proposing to send out emails well after the event. I had difficulty - I knew I hadn't forgotten my password, but when I clicked on forgotten password and filled in the form I didn't get the email. I very nearly just decided to ditch the forum altogether. INHO the change was very poorly managed (or rather, not managed for users).
