They have the highest execution rate per capita worldwide. Like I said, I won't strictly avoid places that execute, otherwise I'd never visit Egypt, Mongolia, ... and those places attract me too much. But then I have my ethic believes and harsh punishments and harsh legal systems are not part of those believes ; Singapore is one of those places where harsh punishments are the rule rather than the exception. In that case, no matter how attractive, the wish not to economically support such regimes is one I don't like to ignore.

It's a different situation for countries like Jordan, Egypt, Belarus etc where harsh punishments are occuring only exceptionally.

I hope Saudi someday relaxes its laws. Especially Jeddah looks so beautiful when I see the pictures. But I won't be going until the laws relax a bit. I don't feel like a holiday where I have to even stress over simply asking a female person the directions to the hotel ...

Also, I am on antidepressives, but customs in countries with hard policies towards drugs (eg KSA, Singapore, ...) could wrongly think they're recreational drugs.

I can promise you that Singapore is 100 times nicer, and better, than KSA.

Why is China not on your list, they execute thousands of people a year?

Good call. I forgot about that one. I'll add that to the list, with the exception of Hong Kong and Macau who don't have the death penalty. China is on my "to visit" list though when the laws relax, same goes for Saudi Arabia.

So Gerrit you`ll visit anywhere really as long as they only kill a few people and they`ve got nice scenery? As a matter of interest what is the number per capita threshold for you to avoid tourism? Keep taking the tablets.

Let's say it like this: some countries that still have the death penalty in their lawbook haven't used it in about 8 or 9 years and will never use it unless we talk about a person having killed hundreds of people (even then I still oppose the death penalty though). In theory Morocco and Algeria have the death penalty but they haven't executed anyone in a 20 years or so.

Compare that to China, Saudi Arabia, USA, Pakistan etc who execute more people in a month than the above examples in 10 years ... the difference is quite clear, isn't it?

Nonetheless, as I said, even if it's one execution in 10 years it's one too many in my opinion, but that's theme for thought for a different topic.
