Alright to keep it simple lets say my name is Jander I am 30 years old.

I am originally from Turkey but I moved to the U.S. (miami area) when I was 19 and I spent 10 years there. Worked, got an education, and spent some time not doing anything in particular (was awesome).

2 years ago I had to abandon my life in America and move back to Turkey because my father got sick and then I had to move to the U.A.E to clean up a business that he left behind because none of my siblings wanted to take the responsibility and much of our family assets were invested in this business so I am still working on trying to recover what I can from this mess and close up any remaining debts. I have an "active" emiratii partner who is really as active as a growing watermelon, love the guy!

I am usually working 6 days a week from 7am to up to 7pm and rest of time is spent at the gym or the pool in my building, catching up on movies, tv shows (lost noooo!) and discovering music (big time hobby) I have been meaning to start being more social forever now but I became too comfortable in the small alternate reality I created in between work and home activities.

I haven't been particularly content in Dubai but i guess that was mostly due to the circumstances that I had to come here under. I have grown an acceptance in time and I am content now but annoyed because I sort of feel oppressed by concepts I do not support in this place and I don't enjoy how they run it.

Hi I'm Jamin. Coming to Dubai in 8 weeks but feel really at home already having joined this forum a while back. Currently in Uk, tend to get itchy feet after 3 years hence move to UAE. Been in current place 5 years - need to move on! I tend to hide under my knitted beanie most days, not because I'm shy but out of a lack of interest in my hair! I'm not really a girly-girl but not a butch manly type either. Just a healthy somewhere in the middle. I tend to be a bit of a social cameleon and really enjoy meeting all sorts of people (the more free-spirited and open minded the better). I love good company that really know how to talk and have a laugh, not just the chit chat or gossip stuff; pushing people's thinking and exploring my own. I don't like settling into my comfort zone but like to be challenged to think outside of it. I believe in God - yes I've said that 'G' word and everything that can make me reflect on being a more accepting and tolerant person.
I like nothing more than good food with lashings of good wine! I don't have any parents but I am fortunate to have my soul-mate of a husband and 2 wonderful kids (6 years old and 20 months). It's the first time I have lived outside of Europe. I have spread my life experiences living in France, UK and Ireland and can't wait to finally arrive with you guys.
J x

Is this like AA - do we get a round of applause when we introduce ourselves, with a "Hi Tally" back?

OK, well joined the forum in Spain quite some time ago and ventured in here a VERY long time ago....but seeming to be popping by more and more often these days....I wonder why? Like to thank Jynxie, Diamante & Andy for the encouragement and welcome, and Jo of course who told me to set an intrepid foot in here...what can I say? I'm shy.

So, yes, been here in Galicia, NW Spain for five years now - hubby originally from here. Got three kids. They've adapted really well - struggling to keep on top of their English these days. Built a house so am a bit scarred from a red tape nightmare but wouldn't change anything for the world. If it's taught me anything, it's that working your ass off back in the UK to enjoy the fruits of a more basic lifestyle is so worth it. Live next door to MIL - actually lived with her for about 3 years until the house was built - lots of responsibilities and between us about 5k metres of land to take care of. Surrounded by OH's family, but my side tend to come out every few months to stay at Hotel Tallulah. Haven't been back to the UK yet, but think a trip maybe coming up pretty soon.

Life is hectic - not the typical, what everyone thinks of as expat life in the sun - far from it. If anything, we're busier. Little time for interests, but when it's there, it's on our doorstep. Would I change it? No, not really - that sense of community and family is very strong here and I feel as if I really belong. Probably last for another generation though, as here in the NW it's catching up fast - at that point, we'll probably end up moving further out into the mountains.

Will probably use the lounge more for fun and drinks served by Dunmovin more than anything - cos I need time out now and again - and there's enough talk of politics and finance around me anytime I want it - and a girl needs to escape.

Tallulah.x

Heh, thought there was a subforum for introductions and cannot remember if I ever posted in there. Anyways, even if I have, I'll just give this an update.

I'm from Belgium, from the idyllic city of Ghent to be precisely, with its many canals and medieval architecture combined with the modern vibe thanks to a vibrant student life. I studied in Ghent most of my young years although lived in a suffocating small village which was highly conservative. Luckily, I spent most of my hours in the city and got along very well with my parents. My desire to travel the world made my travel guides and maps my best friends and provided the oxygen I needed to stay motivated and ambitious. At age 22 I decided to follow that dream I've had for so many years, when I was offered a job in Dublin. I was one year from graduating at post-secondary school but decided that following my dream was the only correct choice to make.

Dublin was the start of the foreign adventure although it didn't actually go like I planned. We're 6 years later now and I have meanwhile lived in 6 foreign countries. It was hell of a ride, not the easiest ride but I nonetheless wouldn't have dared to dream 6 years ago to have lived in so many different places by now. So you won't hear me complain about that! Of all places I lived Istanbul was by far the nicest on all possible levels, I loved to be immersed in a totally different culture and way of life and I still long for the day I can return to the Middle East. Other places I enjoyed living in were Belfast and Berlin, and currently I'm quite satisfied with Spain as temporary home.

Apart from travelling and discovering other cultures, arts is my big passion. I am an active and ambitious writer, and love to immerse myself in the artistic environments such as literature readings, musical events, arts houses, etc.
I have an autism spectrum disorder and anxiety disorder and have had depressions for as long as I can remember, but I nonetheless try to remain ambitions and chase my dreams. We only got this one life, so I want to make the most of it and not hide behind a medical diagnosis. When the sky looks totally ink black, the stars tend to shine even more clearly I am an activist for those with psychological disorders, which I enjoy very much as it gives an incredible fulfillment.

I also am mad about sports, so very exciting counting the days until the World Cup. Also, I'm a quite political person and can enjoy some very lengthy political debates.

Some other facts which you may or may not consider relevant: I've been atheist since as long as I can remember, I've been vegetarian and nearly vegan for 22 years, I am quatrolingual and now started studying Hebrew, I have a dislike for parties and alcohol (and a very strong dislike for the combination of both) and have a fetish for everything geography.

And since my obsession with arts I may just as well list my favourite bands: The God Machine, Orphaned Land, Placebo, Muse, Manic Street Preachers, Bauhaus, Rush, A Perfect Circle, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Smiths, Silke Bischoff, Indochine, ... Favourite piece of architecture: the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Favourite painter: Kittelsen.

WOW.. A lot of elder people here... And all along as I saw names in the various posts I thought....... :-)

My name is Sam... Hmm .... was born an expat.. into Dubai.. originaly from India, 23 years old... Hmmm.. I work as an engineer in JA, after eductaional stints around Sharjah, Dubai and India.

I did some free lance writing for a local children's magazine upto a few years ago. I am generally a quiet person although I love expressing myself in writing!!!... Off late , been trying to revive my reading habit and have taken an interest into poetry. I love watching movies and am a big fan of suspense thrillers. Watching too many movies has isolated me from books for a while!!..

I love cooking although I am bad at it. I have often been impatient in learning culinary skills although I wish i would dedicate more time to achieving some skills. My interests also include travelling and I hope I can start making some trips abroad soon...

Hey everyone, I am a fifty four year old attempting to make a move to Australia. I like it here in the US, especially where I live in Maryland but the US is becoming way to hostile for me. I have a two year degree and want to finish up a BS in nursing. I love dogs and nature, they both give me peace. I also like to write very much and have written seven books. Pulishing is in the work on one, still, I enjoy the process, it is relaxing. For all of you attempting to move to OZ, Good luck.--RobbieB
