I might have got the wrong end of the stick with this one but am I right in thinking, you pay 1000 dirhams fill an application in and then you go on a waitlist and MAYBE you get a place??? Why am I paying for the opportunity to maybe get in??? Im interested in a couple of different schools so how do people go about that without losing a ton of money...

Yes that's about right although exact fee can vary (or at least used to) - you are entitled to a refund of majority of the registration fee less 'reasonable administration fee' if you withdraw your application.

Hi,
Yes - incredible - but if you want a school place - then no other option.
When we first arrived in Dubai we contacted a number of schools.
One that shall remain nameless - but is virtually opposite Mall of the Emirates, indicated that they had places available for our son and that we should make an application.
We visited the school, filled out the forms and paid the deposit.
We asked how long before they confirmed his place - they then had the cheek to tell us that they had no places available and that we were on a long waiting list!
We were convinced that we were scammed!
They never did contact us again - so money was lost.
With so many new schools opening in Dubai - the tide may be starting to turn in favour of parents - that will be a good thing.
Cheers
Steve
