Default Moving to Dubai with no job

Hi All,
I have taken a leap of faith and moving to Dubai from the UK with no job. I was briefly there and see few people but nothing materialised as such.

I will be moving alone to start with and once have job will call my Mrs and the kids to come over.

I have finance back ground, 10+ years experience in MNCs and qualified
I want to know if others on this forum has done the same, did it pay off, how their experience have been, how long did it take them to find something, anything they could have differently and lastly any paperwork they would recommend me to have ready with me or anything other things I must prepare before I am out there.

Any advice would be helpful!

Many thanks

Moving in the summer when half the country is on holiday isn't a wise move.

Finance people are 10 a penny here from a non-UK background so unless you have something very unique to offer, then expect to be low bid by very many competent finance staff from the subcontinent.

Good luck but people who do that have something to offer that isn't in Dubai in great supply and one thing the UAE is never short of is accountants

Hi twowheelsgood,

Thanks for your reply. To clarify planning to move in September so hopefully things will be back to normal after eid and summer.

Yes, I agree a lot of accountants from subcontinent’s however I don’t necessarily call myself typical accountant I am more towards business partnering side of things and also aware they favour people from western background in Dubai

Are u an accountant n gone through same?

I am not an accountant but I've had a few work for me in my time here.

All from the subcontinent and only one from the UK who do much more than the local talent do, and certainly not worth the extra money they expect. I'm not sure what 'business partnering' means to you but I doubt it will be something anyone would pay a western premium for.

Those who 'are favoured from the West' operate at higher level than an accountant and more at an FD level in my experience.

But good luck in your search.

I've been working over 7 years here now for a company with 2500 employees, all the finance people are from either Palestine or Pakistan except for a member of the owners family and he is Kuwaiti. I run 3 companies for them and can't remember a single finance guy I've dealt with from the west.

The last thing I would do is move here without a job, sure, come for 30 days to check it out but you will find you money doesn't last long in this place and moving is expensive.
