Default How long does it take for MOL to resolve cases?

My friend has been working in a company in Dubai on an unlimited contract. He has resigned from the company before the completion of his probationary period of 6 months because he finds the activities of the company a bit shady and luckily he has also found another job offer.

The new company has agreed to wait until he finishes the notice period but the problem is that the employer of the current company is unwilling to accept his resignation. They want him to extend his notice period and are not even seriously looking out for a replacement for him. My friend has a few more days left until he finishes his notice period and then one day noticed that the resignation email he had sent his boss (owner) is missing from his mailbox.

My friend knows that MOL is the last resort he can seek but is a little skeptical in complaining to them because he has heard that cases registered with the MOL can drag on for months. He fears he might lose his opportunity with the new company.

So I would appreciate it if someone could advise us on the best course of action that my friend can take. Thank you.

If he has resigned by email or in writing, the company has no right to reject his resignation.

the MOL will take a fe minutes to resolve that, and will ring the employer and tell them where to get off within a few hours of seeing the email/letter.

In such cases, they are the first resort - they will cancel the working visa almost immediately.

Thanks for your reply. My friend's company has managed to find a replacement within the last few days of his notice period and in fact his last working day was yesterday but the company owner has still not shown any interest in completing the exit formalities and is showing signs of delaying the process. What should my friend do? The owner is a local and has many connections. He is also well versed with the law. My friend doesn't want to get into any legal disputes considering the time and money involved.

Go to the MoL, with all the paperwork.

They will call the boss directly and tell him what the law is and what he should do.

Many locals claim to have 'many connections' but few actually do and almost none are likely to tangle with an MoL official.
