Default Housing/Budget Calculations

Why do I feel like I'm writing a book posting a question here?

lol

Ok so my question is two parts. I've used the search function to find what I need to put in the budget- I got this basic stuff so far:

tv/internet
2 mobiles
food
utilities

we dont have a car payment so n/a on that but it seems like I am missing a whole lot. husband said not to put "outings" in the budget, he has a separate thing for that so just trying to figure out the housing part. does anybody have a rough figure of these amounts for a 3 bedroom/3 people?

Also, I was curious about the "housing allowance" allocated by the companies. At my husband's last job (not in Dubai), they gave him 3K but we were still in the US. He had to pay out of his salary an additional 1K for a studio (but it was furnished including utilities), he said it would be at least 6500 for a two bedroom. Now we are here and his current job always knew that (cause they sent us over in fact), and they give us 9K. so do they give you what they expect you to spend, and based on how many people is in your family? Or is it just a percentage of the salary, does anyone know? I read that typically people pay 1/3 of their salary for rent here. His original goal was to only use half of the 9K, but he's scrapped that... really unreasonable. I'm trying to work out the rest of the averages now.

Depends on where you want to live - a 3 bedroom varies in rental price all over the city. You should use dubizzle and property finder to find the prices in the area(s) you are considering.

It depends on the company... for some it's the same allowance given to all employees of a certain level or grade, for others they have different allowances or policies depending on whether you are single or married or married with kids.

One thing you should look at it is if the allowance is being paid to you in full or if you have to provide rent receipts. i.e. If the allowance is 9k, do they just give you the 9k and you do what you want, or do you have to submit a rent receipt and they will only give you your actual rent, up to a maximum of 9k.

Good rule of thumb - but I pay less than than for 1 bed, but others I know pay up to 45% of their salary for a 3 bed. As I said before, it depends on the area - but I doubt there are any 3 beds for under 100k a year.

thank you so much for the reply.

what I meant was, the other expenses for a 3 bedroom/3 persons, not the actual rent...
