Default Driving license exchange - Success (today)

A bit painful but doable. Here's the process in Paphos (all processes in Cyprus are fluid!).

Go to the Department of Road Transport in Mesogi.
Don't take a queue ticket, and don't sit down.
Go down the left corridor, to a door on the right hand side door (after the two toilet doors).
Get an appointment to 'exchange driving license'.
At the same time - if you want more than Car or Bike (or both), then ask the guy that gives you the appointment for the correct medical form. For example: In addition to Car & Bike, I wanted C1 / D1 (light truck/minibus), so got the simple form and went for a simple medical (5 min - heart/lungs check with any GP). There may be more complex forms if you need full HGV or Coach.
On arrival for the appointment, take a queue ticket, but again don't sit down - go back down the corridor to the door where you got the appointment - the door you now need is opposite it.
You now get checked for correct paperwork (check website), and eligible driving categories - make sure you have the form already filled in (location as others have guided on this forum). We used the English version of the form to guide us to fill in the Greek version (easy) - not sure how happy they would be over accepting the English version, so we took the safe route.
The agreed categories (you can argue the point if you have many categories, but the guy's judgement is final), are then hand written on the top of your application form, stamped, and a record hand written in his ledger.
You need to do an eyesight check, which is just reading a license plate in the car park from his office window.
You then take all your forms and license back to the waiting area (you leave nothing with him, you get nothing from him). If you're lucky, your queuing ticket is still active! If not and there are lots of people - go home and come back early some other day (don't think that as this is a two part process and you're half way through, you can just go straight to the photo-desk/cashier - nope!!).
When your ticket is called, you get photographed, sign a signature reader, and then get processed by the Cashier: Hand over the forms and your License (which you loose); Details are put in the computer; Sign two forms; Pay 40 Euro (I'd read 20 but nope); You're then given a paper Driving License cover note.
You're told to come back in 25 days to pick up your Cypriot (EU) driving license.

Mainly it's the standing/sitting around waiting that are the pain, but that's normal, so all up it's not that bad. Good luck.

What a performance! When we did ours last April I downloaded the forms and once completed took them to our local DoT in Dherynia and had them checked and signed off. We joined the queue in the licence issuing office next door, handed over our forms and UK licence, paid our money, had our photos taken, given a temporary licence and told we would get a text when our new licences were ready. No eye sight tests and even told that if we hadn't done so already to take our old UK licence to the kiosk next door where they had a photo copier so we would still have a record of it for reference.
