Question Student Visa Queries

Hi,

I have some queries about student visa. I have 7 plus years experience in software industry. I am planning to do a PG diploma (1 year duration) starting July 2014.
My queries:
1) How much is the fund requirement for dependant of student visa holder. I read somewhere that it is $4200 for a year. Is it correct?

2) I read that medical examination is required only if the intended stay is for more than 12 months. I am planning to apply for Post Study Work Visa after the completion of my course. So do we need to undergo full medical examination? I know that X ray is required as we will be staying for more than 6 months.

3) Again, if I provide full medical examination results, will that be considered as my first step towards my intention to stay after my course? And so will I be denied visa?(I guess this is pretty difficult for anyone of you to say, still any answers will be much appreciated)

4) If at all I am called for visa interview, will there be questions related to post study work visa application? I have heard that there might be questions related to my future plans after completing the course. So if they ask about my intention to apply for post study work visa, what should be my answer? Will my answer be instrumental in deciding the approval of post study work visa after course completion?

5) What is the IELTS requirement for dependant? Is it 6 in all bands or more than that?

Many thanks.

1. All depends what visa the dependent has. If - for example it's a temporary work visa then they need not show money to support themselves as they will have a job to support themselves.

2. You shouldn't need a medical as your course is only for a maximum of 12 months. If you intend to remain after the course, yes you will have to undergo a full medical. You will however have to provide the chest x-rays.

3. No, however Immigration could use it at a later date (if it's still considered current), although I doubt it would be. Submitting a full medical shouldn't cause any issues for your visa application. If it is not relevant to your application, Immigration will just disregard the info.

4. Of course they will ask what your intentions are and you must respond with the truth.

5. Depends on their visa.

Hi,

1 and 4. Since I am going to study a level 8 course (on skill shortage list), my spouse might get a work visa. He is planning to search jobs after landing in NZ. Now what will be the fund requirement and IELTS band requirement for this?
I hope it is clear now.

Question

Hi,

Since I am going to study a level 8 course (on skill shortage list), my spouse might get an open work visa. He is planning to search jobs after landing in NZ.

Now what will be the fund requirement and IELTS band requirement for my spouse?
I hope it is clear now.

Yes it's clear what you are asking however I'm not sure there is a fund requirement for your spouse having a temporary work visa.
Normally the holder of a temporary work visa only has the visa because yet have a job offer and the job/employer become conditions on the visa.
Since your spouse may be awarded a temporary work visa because you have a student visa he does not have to have a job offer initially and as I say it's unclear whether he has to prove funds to cover expenses until he lands a job.
There also does not appear to be any requirement to prove your spouses English language understanding.
Neither of you would be eligible for any state assistance / benefits.

Hmm..I did a lot of googling on this and was not able to find any clear answer. It was not mentioned in the in the NZ Immigration website even.
Anyway thanks for your time.

When I start the visa processing, I will surely post my experience here, so that it might become helpful to someone else.

thanks,

All I can find is this located in the Immigration Operations Manual which is basically the officers process and rule book on all matters relating to Immigration.
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/index.htm

Look at rule WF4.1

Clearly states that an applicant of a Special Work Visa needs to have a minimum of $4200 for maintenance during their period of temporary stay.

Can't seem to find anything relating to them having to prove their English language standard.

Thanks Escapedtonz.

I called the NZ immigration office in India.

They confirmed that IELTS is not mandatory and that fund requirement is $4200 for a year. Medicals is also not necessary unless the CO asks for it. Else, Xray will do for both of them.

Hi,

What I have posted here is the information I got from the NZ Immigration office in India. Since you are from Pakistan, I guess the processing would be done in Dubai. Please go through the below link.

http://www.vfsglobal.com/newzealand/uae

From my knowledge, time taken for processing is dependent on the office which deals with your application. And please go through the attached document as well.
