Thumbs up Job options after getting a visa

Dear friends
I am just wondering about the kind of jobs i can do if I get a resident visa to NZ. Is it mandatory to work in the same field which we applied earlier through SMC route to secure resident visa or if a person is allowed to work in any domain/job/field.

From my research, i understood that if I am granted resident visa, I am free to do any job. Kindly correct me if I am wrong.
Also, if I am granted Work to residence visa ( deferred resident visa), I may be getting a 9 months time to find a job. Can i find a job any fields that suits my interests during this period?

Thanks guys in advance for your reply in this regard..

Surej

Hi,

Don't think it's mandatory for you to work in the same field, however that occupation area one of the reasons why you met the criteria and would subsequently be awarded the visa. It is also the area where you have skills and experience that are in demand in NZ so it's unlikely that you would get a job in another occupation area (assuming you don't have the skills and experience in that area).

It was similar for me and I did get a job in the occupation area where I claimed bonus points, however to this day (2 years after arrival), Immigration have never asked a question about my employment.

If your Resident visa is deferred you will get a Job Search Visa not WTR.
This should allow you 9 months to find a skilled job and I would say it must be a skilled job in the occupation area that you have claimed points for Residency.

Can't actually find that in black & white on the Immigration website though so just my opinion.
