Temporary work visas are specific to an employer. They are only approved on the basis of a job offer so you can only work in that job for that employer.

Resident visas allow you to work for any employer any job so long as you meet any work conditions applied on the visa first as you may have gained it with points for a job offer so you have to fulfill that condition for 12 months before you are then free to do as you please.

I expect you can work. A JSV does allow you to actually work but you'll only be approved for RV once you have a skilled job offer at least 12 months.
Dear escapedtonz,
Please correct me if i am wrong, but as per knowledge, a JSV holder needs to work atleast three months (not 12 months) in his approved skilled job to apply for conversion of JSV to RV.

No.

A principal applicant of RV (via SMC) who has been given a JSWV in lieu of RV needs to get a written skilled job offer from an NZ employer and that job offer must be for at least 12 months which classes it as permanent. That is the qualifying criteria to turn the JSWV in to RV. That JSWV will be for up to 12 months.
Yes the JSWV allows a person to work in any job and for any employer but there is no condition that states, once you do get a skilled job offer that you must work in it for a minimum period before applying for conversion to RV.

If you are approved RV via SMC on the basis that your application includes points for a job offer then you must take up that job offer within 3 months of entering NZ (activating the visa) and then remain in that job with that company for at least 12 months before you can have that condition removed. Once removed you are free to do whatever you please.

Hi All,

I am in New zealand since last four month with Skilled Category Job Search Visa. I got one month contract role that is related to my ANZSCO skill. My contract is further extended for three months. I am unable to find permanent role or 1 year fix term contract role in order to change my visa status from work visa to resident via.

My Visa is going to expire on 25-Jan-2019. My contract is going to finish on 5th of January, 2019. If my contract again get renewed to another 6 months on 5th January,

1-Than will I be able to change my Skilled category work visa to any other work visa?
2-What are the options I will have before my visa get expired?
3-I want to know how I can get another work visa that could allow me to work for another 6 months is new zealand.
4- What are the options of work visa conversion I would have

Please reply thanks

As cloud technology is getting popular. System administrator are having good scope.
If not already, try to get AWS Sysops certified. Basically having good knowledge of iAAS would help.

Thank you all for great information!

After working for one month with my employer with one month contract role, my contract has been extended to 1 year fix term in continuation of work for an IT project of my employer's client (Client is New Zealand Accredited employer). Last month I got all 40hrs per week and project is in progress very well.

In my new 1 yr fix term contract, it is mentioned that minimum I will get minimum 20hrs per week or maximum 40hr per week for project execution based on the requirement of my employers client. My employer has said that sometime I may get 20hrs per week but most of the time I will get 40hrs per week. My job description is also complying with my ANZSCO Code that I had submitted at the time of EOI.

I am going to submit my 1month contract, pay slip of one month contract and new one year fix term contract to immigration office this week.

Please advise if will help me to change my visa status from Skilled Category work visa to Resident Visa.

Note: My Resident application is already under processed but it was deferred for 9 month till I get the ongoing and sustainable employment in my occupation in New Zealand.

Your advise is highly appreciated.
