Default Validity of International driving liscence

Hello friends,
I hope to have some help regarding this issue. I have been driving in India and when I arrived here in 2013 dec. did not get the international licence, somehow it slipped my mind but now without it, its getting tough to pick n drop kids from school and do other stuff as well.
So, While my visit to India in the last month I got my international licence. Some People here say that it's valid only in the first year of travel, I cannot use it any more and have to take my practical test then get my UK license. Is it true??

I have passed my theory test with my husband few months back and hopefully we both will book for practical as anyhow after an year I need to but in the mean time thought to drive on this international. Can I??
Thank u people for all advice in advance .

If you are living in the UK, then you can only drive on a foreign license for the first year. An International Driving Permit is NOT a license, it is simply an accepted form of translation of a foreign license.

It sounds like you are living in the UK and have been since 2013. Neither of you can now drive legally on your Indian licenses. If you do, you will NOT be covered by your car insurance.

This raises the question in my mind of how you could even get car insurance after Dec. 2014 at all.

Thanks OldPro for your reply.
(If you are living in the UK, then you can only drive on a foreign license for the first year) - this has cleared my doubt that I am not able to drive with my international liscence now but only in my first year.
Now rergarding your doubt
(This raises the question in my mind of how you could even get car insurance after Dec. 2014 at all)
I did not mention anywhere that we are driving on any licence as we did not maintain a car yet so no question of insurance.
but if at all it was valid for me to drive on my international licence which I got now, then were thinking of buying a car.
Thanks again
I would not do or think of doing any thing which is not legal hence was here to clear my doubt.

OK juhi, good to hear you don't plan on driving illegally. As you mentioned picking up and dropping off the kids at school, it sounded like you were driving a car already.

Time to book your driving tests.
