Default Canadian Ancestry marrying Southern Irish citizen living in Uk

Been in UK almost 1 year of my 5 year visa been living with my fiancee who moved when I gained my ancestry. We went to marraige registrar today to book our day and was told since I am non eec it gets passed to the home office to make a decision. We are worried now what the next steps are. Going out since Dec 2012 engaged since Oct 2013 and living together since Oct 2014. We were led to believe that I could Marry on a long term visa and today was a surprise to us

You can but since you aren't on a fiance or marriage visit visa there is the possibility that your case will be referred to the home office and instead of a 28 day notice period the notice period could be up to 70 days.

Thanks for the reply The registrar has said because I am non ex it goes to the home office for investigation and charged extra and requested passport pictures of us both are we mistaking the process. We paid the the higher fee per person and provided passport pics does that mean it goes to home office or may go to home office

Your case will go to Home Office, as registrars have no discretion over it. Don't worry, most people in your position gets quickly approved, nothing like 70 days. 1-2 weeks is more typical.
