There are waiting lists for council housing.

You would need to get onto the council house waiting list in the area where he is working.

I work in housing so might be able to help.

Usually you need a local connection to an area before you can be considered for social housing. So this is something you should consider. Depending on the area you live in the rules might be a lot less lax - say if the demand isn't great.

Seeing as you already live in social housing you might be able to find a mutual exchange transfer so that you don't have to give up your home and start over. I know that it's possible to move from social housing in say England to Scotland without too many problems. I can't say the same for Ireland though as it's not part of the UK.

This is something to ask your housing officer.
