Default ILR 5 years continuous

My wife is on FLR and her current Biometric Residence Permit expires on 07th September 2021.

However, her original BRP was issued on UK 21-07-2016.

Does this mean that we can apply 5 years after 21-07-2016 (or 28 days before) which would be end of June 2021 or do we apply in August 2021?

I am really confused on this and couldn't find an obvious answer.

Did you mean your wife arrived on 7th August 2016??

She can apply for ILR - SET(M) up to 28 days before the 5th anniversary of her date of arrival into the UK. So if she arrived on 7th August 2016, she can apply 28 days before 7th August 2021, and no later than 7th September 2021.

But if she arrived on a fiance/proposed CP visa, that time isn't counted toward the qualifying residence period. It starts from the date she received her first spouse visa, so ILR eligibility will be 23 June 2021
