Default Counting days from which date?

Hello -

Which date should I start counting from, the date of online application, or the date the documents arrived in NY? I'm seeing both mentioned.

I'm applying for a Marriage visitor Visa which has a target of 15 days. I'm traveling 20 November, and will need my passport back by then. If there's been no news by day 15, I want to escalate my application if possible, as that seems to make a difference. Or it's at least worth a try. My application should be straightforward...

Thanks Taylorjhonwin!

If you’re right, and it’s the date of application, then I’m on day 11 of a 10-15 day process!

If you're talking about service standards, the day your documents are received. They obviously can't start processing your application without your supporting docs.

15 days is also a target, it's not a service standard. You can't escalate an application under these circumstances. All applications from outside the UK could take up to 60 working days, that is UKVI's published service standard (see link below). Until you breach that, there is no point in calling/emailing the 3rd party service that operates the hotline. They truly do not do anything but fob you off.

Thanks Clever-Octopus!

Based on that, I calculate that today is day 8, as the application arrived on the 15th of October unless the day it arrives counts and then today is day 9.

I am beginning to regret this visa application and I'm wondering if I should withdraw it at some point and cut my losses. Business day 15 is 5 November, which is 11 business before we depart on our Thanksgiving holiday visit to the UK.

If you (or anyone reading this) has any experience with or or knowledge of what's involved with canceling an application, and how long it takes, I'd be most appreciative. My impression is that you call the phone number and this is something they can do. I also read somewhere that it takes 15 business days to cancel an application. So perhaps call on 30 October?

And yes, I'm overthinking this...

Panic averted! I noticed my return label was activated Friday evening, and my application with passports arrived this morning. Visa granted! And they made it so that it starts a week before our travel date and it’s a multi entry visa!
