Spouse Visa questions

Hi all

I am a brit currently living In California, soon my American wife will be applying for a spouse visa.

One option we could take is by presenting the 62,500 savings.

Ive read in some places that printed online statements with a certain level of detail are fine, but in other places if read otherwise.

Id rather be safe than sorry, but my the account my savings is in is a Barclays account.

How can I get the correct statements without returning to the UK? Will perhaps a barclays branch in the US suffice? or perhaps the online statements will just be ok?

Many thanks, Joseph

You need to provide bank statements, stamped by the relevant bank as authentic. Ones printed from the internet will not suffice.

You also need to provide a paper trail of how this money was accumulated/where it came from.

Thanks, my issue is that I am currently in the US and cannot visit a Barclays branch to do this. Do you have any thoughts on ways around this?

I believe there is a requirement to show that you have held the money for a period of 6 months minimum

Have you tried calling them and asking them if they could send to the US?
For many accounts people more usually order statements over the phone rather than going into the branch - obviously I don't know about yours.
Do you have an address in the UK registered with the bank that the statements could be picked up from?

Thanks, good idea r.e. mailing to my home adress, obviously thats not ideal, i wondered if a US barclays branch could print them.

The whole thing seems like a ridicilous loophole in the process

It would be great if they could, and worth finding out -
I think in the UK people's typical experience is that the branches often can't print statements (though they sometimes do stamp/authenticate internet printouts).

Always good to have a plan A, B and maybe C with these things though!

You could try:-

- phone your bank and explain situation
- you print off the statements and send them to bank for them to stamp
- get letter from bank confirming statements are genuine.

Sounds like a lot to do, but you HAVE to get certified statements.

After I submitted my Marriage Visitor Visa Application, they gave instructions for the remainder of the process, and it said that from November 2018, originals or copies of documents are acceptable.
