Default ILR quick query

Hello All,

I am gearing up to apply for my ILR (via the spouse visa route, I believe it is called Set M? )

I had a quick questions. Reading through some of the recently successful ILR application posts for research, I found that some people have done their Life in the UK test pre ILR application. My understanding was that the Life in UK test is done in order to obtain the UK passport, but not necessary for ILR?

Am I incorrect in my understanding? (which is very possible) Thanks folks

Yes, SET(M) is what you want

The Life in the UK test IS necessary for ILR unless you are over 65, under 18, or have some qualifying disability. I would recommend booking a LITUK test as soon as possible since testing centres are often full up with appointments

Can I please check, I am able to give the test any time now? My visa is valid till Feb 2020. Does it have to be within 3 months of the visa expiry or can I apply to sit it end of OCtober/ November time?

CORRECTION. You NEED to have done the Life in the UK test to obtain ILR.

See, this is what I had thought, that it is purely by choice and not actually necessary for actual ILR application...

But we appear to have two conflicting answers now haha. I think I may go ahead and book the test anyway, but I would like to know if it is essential for ILR or not. I think I will go read through the UK gov website and see what they say there.

Edit to say- thanks to both posters for responding

Hi,

You should book for the test online. I'd highly advise you to do this ASAP.

Once you have passed the it, it has no expiry date and will remain valid indefinitely. So you can take the test at anytime (obiviously before the ILR appplication).

My wife's ILR due in April next year. So I've started to monitor

Regards

Kimi when you apply.. it asks for lituk test certificate. So it'd a requirement. İf not you risk refusal.

Hi Kimi! You absolutely need the LITUK pass certificate for ILR. I took my a year before my ILR was due. I bought a book from WH Smith, read it cover to cover and took notes. There are many free online tests you can take...I did loads of those. The subject matter is so vast: sports, history, government, culture. The studying I did was probably overkill, but I wanted to be sure. By the time I took the test it was super easy, though. Good luck!
