I have Indefinite Leave to Enter, via a 5 year (husband in military) Settlement Visa. I talked to several different agenices with in the Home Office, as well as making several posts on here, before applying for the ILR, to determine if I really needed to do that after residing here for 5 years. I was told I did have to do the ILR. I did my application, went to one of the Sopra Steria appointments and awaited the decision. I was told while it can take up to 6 months, it has been taking 8 to 12 weeks. Bang on 12 weeks, I received a letter in the post. Essentially, ILE and ILR are now considered the same thing, please see link:

No one mentioned this to me at any point. It seems like maybe it is new? But I just wanted to share here to provide info for anyone contemplating applying from ILE to ILR.
