Default I'm SO Confused

Hey Ya'll!

So, I'm totally lost. I'm renewing my ILR-M by February 2020 and I don't know where to begin. All the experience with the first two visas is mostly moot because they keep changing the process.

Please somebody tell me where to begin! I started the online application (yes, I know it's early) but got hung up when they asked for all entrances and exits to the UK. Does this mean everything, including the first tourist visa from years ago?

Also, what happens after this ILR? Do I have to reapply after 5 years then? Thanks so much for your help. I'd be completely lost without this forum. It's seriously the best resource for helping sort out the quagmire that is the UK visas.

1) if they specify "Within the last X years" when inquiring about your entrances/departures from the UK, (I think that the form used to say 10?) then you should specify every. single. departure/re-entry into the UK. A first class PITA, I know, but if that's what they want to know, then that's what you should tell them. Even if it was a quick weekend away to the continent, you have to disclose.

2) Once you have been granted ILR, you've got two choices: a) get naturalised and become a UK citizen, thus allowing you to come/go at your leisure and protecting you from further rate hikes in the future; b) for those of us whose home country doesn't permit dual citizenship (like Japan) and are not willing to renounce their birth citizenship just to take up UK citizenship - you can continue on as you are... anyone can continue along this route and as long as one is aware of the rules and regulations, you are safe (have a look at this story for a worst case scenario...she eventually was allowed back, but not before leaving and re-applying from abroad).
