Salary query? Spouse Renewal 2.5 years

Hi all,

My spouse's came to the UK on Feb 2017 via spouse visa. The renewal is 2.5 years later (so late 2019) - Correct me if im wrong.

My question relates to the salary. Currently i am in a permanent position earning above the 18k threshold. Ill be starting a new 6 month rolling contract next month and ill be earning a significant amount.

My accountant suggested paying my self in dividends for tax reasons. I understand ill need to provide payslips showing my income. But as a director of my company, ill be paying myself dividends.

How much income do i need to show when i pay my self? Can i pay my self 25k in dividends and show that in my application?

Also, it the form also suggests that if i have 16,000 in my savings, that should be sufficient as well? Does the 16,000 need to be in my savings account for a certain period prior to the application?

Thanks

Read the following document carefully to see what is required under the financial requirements.

From the sounds of it you are going to be self employed so documents required to prove income for this category are varied and comprehensive.

You need to show 18,600 GBP income for all categories to qualify.

If going the savings route only (i.e no other income) you need 62,500 GBP in your account.

A Shame.

Hi, thank you for the prompt reply.

Ill be the director of my organisation. Thank you for the link. This is all rather confusing. I may speak to a solicitor to get some guidance.

I've checked and my wife has to apply for the extension in October 2019. So i may work as a contractor (via LTD company) up until January 2019 and then find a permanent role paying above the minimum requirement.

I presume as long as i earn above the threshold on a permanent salary then they will only need 6 months worth of bank statements and pay slips? Its a shame as working as a contractor i'd be earning a minimum of 65,000 per year :(. Where as a perm the salary is 35,000 and on wards.

Not sure why you can't apply under self employed category as a contractor.
