Question Teacher Salaries - Does overseas experience count?

Hi All,

I'm still in the beginning stages - writing my IELTS test for skill assessment in 2 weeks.

I noticed that all the states (well the ones I looked at) have a progression scale for salaries according to the number of years experience you have.

Well, I was wondering if any of you knew whether your overseas experience counts for that 100%, 50% or not at all.

Thanks
Werner

Hi,

I really can't give a definate answer, but I don't think you can claim any from overseas experience. It thinks it's because the system is not about paying teachers with more experience, but rather teachers who have shown dedication the the Australian education system and have shown good service. That's why I think it's not about 'experience' but rather better worded, 'years of service'.

HEY, I could be 100% wrong Sorry if I am, just wait for someone more intelligent to answer, sorry

Not at all. My hubby is an Australian citizen but a UK trained and experienced teacher. All the info he has had from ACT & NSW said he has to start at the bottom of the scale and work his way up when it comes to pay.
His experience would count in the roles & duties he would be expected to carry out and only management experience would
A) get him a better school placement ie not in the boonies or
B) Get him more pay.
