Default Health Care for Temporary Residents

Hi there,

I'm moving to Melbourne from Canada for 6 months on a temporary business visa (457 visa). I'm confused about how the health care works and what I have to do to be covered. It sounds as though I can't get Medicare on this visa, so what do I do if I need any health coverage? Should I have coverage from Canada?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I moved from the US on a 457 visa and we have Iman health insurance. It's very comprehensive and meets the requirements of the 457.

If you go to Australian Health Plans - comprehensive health plans for Temporary Residents and Overseas Visitors they tell you all about the health care requirements for international on temporary visas, as well as who's eligible for reciprocal agreements for Medicare use and the Medicare system generally here.
