Default Regulation for engineers throughout Australia NER (National Engineering Registration)

Hello all,

My wife is an Internal Auditor and she is applying Skilled Visa 189 for Australia. As she got 60 points for visa application I won’t need to validate my graduation at Australia Engineers (I’m Industrial Engineer).

If I get the permanent visa through her visa, can I work as an Engineer in Australia? (even non validated my degree at Australia Engineers)?

Once already with the permanent visa, I can do the registration in Australia Engineers to validate my degree and get the NER (National Engineering Registration). I was studying more about NER and I found that it is not needed for industrial engineers, which is my case (Lean Six Sigma, Quality Process Engineer). As I understand the NER is mandatory only for engineers in the Building, Construction Industry and engineers of the Queensland State.

Follow information from Regulatory Schemes Australia Engineers Website:

“There is no formal system of regulation for engineers throughout Australia. Engineering services are regulated under a variety of Acts in ad hoc areas, many of which relate to engineers in the building and construction industry. There are also many pieces of subordinate legislation, such as regulations, by-laws and orders-in-council that impose various prescriptive standards and incur unnecessary costs to the engineering industry in complying. Queensland currently is the only state where engineers are required by legislation to be registered (if offering or providing engineering services)”

Can anyone confirm if it happens in practice?
When you participated in any selection process, someone asked about NER?

Thanks in advance
