Default potential move to Perth

Hi all

I am looking for some advice regarding our potential move to Perth.

We are a family of 5. Three kids ages 3 and a half, 2 and 3 months. We may have a job offer (457) with a wage of $51,700. Can we realistically live of that???

What are the real rental costs and nursery fees etc. In UK we get funded nursery for 15 hrs a week for our 3 and a half year old. Is there anything like that is Aus for young children?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks

It depends on your salary alone not a chance. but if you are both working then its possible.

$51000 is a very low salary in Perth. I only know one person who earns less and he is single pays little rent and he still struggles.

Your lookin at $350-400 pw for a 3 bedroom house in a **** dangerous suburb on the outskirts of Perth. Also groceries are 3 times more expensive than tesco and childcare can be pricey.

If you were a citizen of Australia you would be getting an extra 300pw from the government just to survive the costs here are enomous. You beign a migrant won't have that opportunity.

Thanks for the no nonesense reply. Not the news I was hoping for but I appreciate the honest advice. I had not realised that was a very low wage in Perth. Grrrrrr!

Many thanks.

Have you checked out the cost of living thread? That may help out too.

I don't think that wage works in any capital city of AU. It might work on the secondary cities and country towns, but as always it comes down to where the job is. In Perth that looks like an impossible salary to make work with kids unless you're Supermom and can live on almost nothing. A 457 also means you don't get access to any allowances that the Gov't gives out (a 457 is considered a long term visitor with work rights so no access to any AU benefits programs).
