Red face ACS Assessment

Hi,

I believe that my job description fits into more than 1 jobcode. Do I have to narrow my choices down to one single job code or I can apply for multiple?

Software Engineer

Developer Programmer

Analyst Programmer

Systems Analyst

Under what job code do I get it assessed? Will it create a problem if I choose a "wrong" one while filing for the EOI or securing a job?

Hi lohiarahul,

Software Engineer, Developer Programmer and Analyst Programmer are in the same unit group (2613) and thus have a joint occupational ceiling, so it does not matter much which one you choose.

A way to differentiate: Alternative titles for "Software Engineer" are "Software Architect" or "Software Designer", so if you choose that your work should have a larger architecture/design component. Software engineers also often cover the entire product lifecycle from requirements specification to design, implementation, testing and maintenance. If you mostly do (specialised) programming you are probably a "Developer Programmer". "Analyst programmers" have a stronger focus on user requirements specification but do also program.

Systems Analysts are in unit group 2611 and currently under "pro-rata" arrangements (see SkillSelect homepage, Occupation ceilings tab), which makes it much harder to get an invite. I would recommend against nominating this occupation if you have a significant overlap with tasks from the 2613 unit group and could choose one of those codes instead.

If ACS does not agree with your nominated occupation code but deems your experience suitable for another code, they will allow you to switch. Your nominated code does not limit your employment options in any way. Once you have permanent residency (via the 189/190 streams) you can work as a surf instructor, if you want to .

Good luck,
Monika

Hi,
can someone give me suggestion on applying for ACS assessment.
I am from electronics background. I did bachelors engineering from India and Masters in electronics engineering from Uk. I dont have any experience neither in electronics nor IT. I learned module in programming like embedded c ,verilog, c++,c and did project in the first 2 language . At the moment I am on 476 graduate visa living in Australia. My question is.

1. Am i eligible for ACS assignment in software field.
2. I already applied for engineers Australia CDR assessment and waiting for the results. since it comes only in august, i am worried, whether by that time electronics will be there in the sol list or not. so can I apply for 2 assessment at a time, i mean an ACS along with the current CDR.

thanks in advance.

Hi rojerron,

to get a positive skills assessment from ACS without an Australian degree you need at least 2 years of relevant work experience, so if you have no work experience that one is out. See: ACS Summary of Criteria

You can just wait and see what the Engineers Australia assessment letter says and check if you still qualify for a visa in the new migration year. How long is your current visa valid? As a backup you may wish to start looking for an employer willing to sponsor you. Take an unpaid internship for a couple of weeks if that is what it takes to land a job.

Good luck,
Monika

Thanks Monika,

I got visa till 10 Aug 2015. Am expecting for a +ve result from EA . I heard from ppl that companies are not sponsoring any more, is that true ?. I need a bit of hope to start searching in that way. Since there is not other way am planning to stay in Melbourne and search some electronics and instrumentation job as unpaid intern.
