Default ACS Skills Assessment - need advice on which occupation I should nominate for?

Hi friends! I need your help.

I'm planning to apply for ACS Skills Assessment and I'm not sure which occupation I should nominate for.

- My work experience:
Graduated from University (4 years ICT) in January 2008
Degree: Master of Informatics

1. ICT Business Analyst
April 2008 - September 2009 (1 year and 5 months)
Duties: user requirements gathering, data and business process models, functional specifications for developers, testing, creating end user documentation.

2. Software Developer
September 2009 - current date (4 years and 6 months)
Duties: interpreting outcome of business analysis, software design, writing and maintaining program code, debugging, unit testing, researching new technologies.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: 5 years and 11 months

Should I nominate for 261311 Analyst Programmer or 261312 Developer Programmer in order for ACS to recognize my total years of experience (5 years and 11 months)?

Here are ACS official codes:
ANZSCO Descriptions http://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/...scriptions.pdf

Would you say ICT Business Analyst and Developer Programmer, under ANZSCO code descriptions, are closely related?

ACS will deduct 2 years from your 5 years total.
you need to check the quotas and total points you can earn. 2611 for business analyst requires you to at least have 70 points to get invited quickly. if you only get 65 you will have to wait for a long time since last invitees from 65 points are from sept. if you get 60 points...well...prepare for a very long time and hope that july 2014 will have changes to hasten 60 pointers processing from last year august to present.

you can model your job experience based on the occupation you want to be similar to be similar to the ones posted by ACS in their template. im not saying to lie about it or make stuff up, but im sure the two jobs you did share some similarities in that regard so its up to you how you word it to make them seem relevant to each other so you can tally them all together. otherwise, ACS might assess your 1st employment as not relevant and deduct the 2 years from the second employment (assuming you nominate software developer).

Thank you tipsztamatic, that was very useful.

But, do you think it is better if I nominate for 261311 Analyst Programmer or 261312 Developer Programmer, based on my past work experience?

I was thinking to nominate for 261311 Analyst Programmer, since my previous occupation (Business Analyst) had some required duties for Analyst Programmer, such as user requirements gathering. Even though, my current occupation (Software Developer) is more close to Developer Programmer..

If anyone had similar experience, please advise.

ultimately you decide which one to nominate. you should consider how many points can you have in total - do you need state sponsorship? which states look for which jobs. will you be able to get reference that will detail your preferred occupation for acs to assess, etc. there is a tight competition for 2613 as well. you should have at least 65 points to have a chance at getting an invite this FY

so i cant say which is better tbh. ive only researched for 2611 as thats where i fall under.

Thanks again, mate. I appreciate the help.

I'm planning to apply for Skilled Independent Visa 189 and my goal is to achieve at least 65 points. For that, I need to have at least 5 years of skilled employment.

However, if i get the result from ACS stating that I only have 4 years of Skilled employment, my total score would be 60 points.
If I apply for EOI this year, I would probably have to wait for a long time before I get an invitation. But, what happens if I apply for EOI this year (with 60 points), and next year (April 2015) I will have 5 years of skilled employment which increases my score to 65 points. Is that additional year of Skilled employment automatically added? Or it is better idea to wait for next year and apply for EOI then?
