Default experts advice needed

Hi!

I have 2.5years work experience of which 1.5years is as a software engineer and 1year as a web developer and im a graduate in IT. I'm planning on taking ielts on may 17th and am confident about getting an 8 as I got it few years back and I'm well prepared, which will give me 65 points. I definitely ain't over confident estimating the result time as 3 weeks, I can submit EOI for 189visa in the first week of june as web developer 261212 ! I'm confused if I should go ahead or wait until July 1st to see for any changes!

Any advice/suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance

Have you done your ACS assessment already?. If I'm not mistaken, they ask for at least 2 year experience in the role you are nominating. I'm not sure if you can count your experience as a web developer towards an assessment for the role of Software Engineer.

You should only submit your EOI once you have your IELTS + ACS results. Nobody knows for sure what changes will come in place on 1/7, the only thing for sure is that the quotas for all roles will be cleared.

Hi mindsintel,

I agree with bonkler.

Don't submit the EOI before you have both your ACS assessment letter and IELTS result. Generally speaking, invitations are issued by 1.) points and 2.) date of effect (= last change to your EOI that changed your points). DIAC will check the dates on your IELTS/ACS results once you apply for your visa and they must not be after the date of effect. Otherwise you would get yourself an unfair advantage over other applicants with the same amount of points that are patiently waiting for their results. It is also risky because you could overclaim by accident, for instance because you somehow don't manage the 8 across all bands in IELTS.

W.r.t. "two years of relevant work experience": DIAC has no such rule, in fact you don't need work experience at all if you can get enough points without it. But ACS generally requires you to have a minimum of two years of full-time, paid work experience related to your ANZSCO code that took place after you became qualified (usually via a bachelor degree). There is an exception if you received your degree from an Australian university. You have to go through skills assessment before you can submit your EOI in any case. By the way, I would recommend to get assessed as Software Engineer rather than Web Developer because the first is on the SOL and the latter only on the CSOL, so you'll need some sort of sponsorship (employer, state or territory). More information: ACS

All the best,
Monika
