Post Engineers Australia Assesment

Hi all,

I am a Civil Engineer, about to submit an application to Engineers Australia for Skills assessment. I was confused when it said Application for Assessment of Engineering Technologist Qualifications (Sydney Accord).

Yes, my degree is accredited by the Sydney Accord. My degree is a BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering from a UK university. I am also a registered Engineer with the Engineering Council in the UK as an Incorporated Engineer.

However, when i am trying to start the MSA, the title it gives me is "Application for Assessment of Engineering Technologist Qualifications (Sydney Accord)" is this correct? Am I classed as an Engineering Technologist? Even though my degree certificate says Civil Engineering?

does this mean my ANZSCO will change from 233211? I have over 9 years of experience in Civil Engineering in UK.

Your assistance and thoughts are highly appreciated. Thanks

I’m a little confused. Can you please explain a little bit what you mean? But for whatever it’s worth don’t go for Engineering Technologist. It’s pro rata and requires higher points for 189.

Usually I think you select what occupation you’re looking to get assessed as. Is it possible you’re omitting something?

Hi Wrussell,

Thanks for your reply. Indeed, i have read the MSA booklet but I'm a bit confused.

Also, when I submit my skills assessment, do I need to also get my work experience assessed? how does it work? or do I need to just get my degree assessed if it is accredited?

Thanks

Hi Bamf,

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think I have omitted anything? I'm just a little confused.

Also, do you know if and when I submit my skills assessment, do I need to also get my work experience assessed? how does it work? or do I need to just get my degree assessed?

Thanks

Relevant skilled employment assessment is not mandatory( especially if your work experience is in the nominated skilled occupation or a closely related one. You’ll just need to prove it to DHA with relevant documents. But many people do it. What’s important is the skills assessment. If you’re still having difficulties entering your occupation, you should definitely give EA a call. They’re usually helpful. I called them up 2 or 3 times when I was assessing.
