Default Lodge 189 Onshore

Hi Experts,

I have recently received my 189 invites. I am wondering is it possible to lodge my 189 onshore. I currently hold a visitor visa (600) with the following conditions:
  • 8101 - No work
  • 8201 - Maximum three months study

There is no 8503 "No further stay" on my visitor visa. So is it possible for me to enter Australia on my visitor visa (600) and apply for 189 onshore? Does my visitor visa count as a substantive visa?

As there is no 8503 condition, you can apply for the 189 onshore and get a bridging visa
But beware that you may not get working rights as generally the BVA has the same rights as the substantive visa

Cheers

Thanks for the quick response NB. Iíve been reading and found that if you received a bridging visa when you applied for 189, you donít have work restrictions. Is this true?

Most apply for 189 with a work visa and hence get the working rights
You are applying with a visitors visa so very high chances that your BVA will also have the same restrictions of no work
But you can be sure only when you apply and get the BVA

Cheers
