ACS Skills assessment

Hi All,

I have a question regarding re-applying for ACS Skills assessment.

I have a non-related Bachelor degree (Chemical Engineering). I have total work experience of 4 years and 10 months from Oct 2012 - Sep 2017 as a Computer Network and Systems Engineer. I have done Masters in Information Technology from Oct 2017 - July 2019. I applied for ACS skills assessment and they gave me the skill level met date as 11 July 2019 and mentioned that any experience after this date can be counted towards claiming points. In short, all my experience is gone in waste and it is not helping me in any way.
I am currently working in Melbourne in the same role. I was thinking to apply for 186 Visa but I need 3 years of experience for Direct Entry 186 ENS. I was expecting that ACS will deduct 2 years of my experience and I will be left with 2 years and 10 months which I can utilize for 186 experience requirement. But it did not happen and according to them I dont have any relevant experience before 11 July 2019. So, my question is, if re-apply for skills assessment without Master's degree, will I get a different outcome? What are the other options for me to make my overseas experience as relevant experience?

Thanks in advance!

You will not be able to re-apply without Masters Degree and get a favourable outcome, because your Bachelors is an issue here as far as I can see. With what you have posted, your assessment is positive but can claim "0" points.

Also, your Masters Degree is attached against your name in ACS, so not sure if you can negate that claim now.

I suggest you wait and accrue more experience before attempting either 186 or 189

All the best..!

If you are looking to get nominated by your employer, it is better to speak with the employer's HR Team, they should know on how they can help you better on this.

As far as ACS, they have mentioned that your exp is not relevant, that is in regards to the Masters Degree as you can only claim relevant exp points for Masters once you have completed the degree.

If you apply for Assessment without Master's, ACS requires 6 years of exp if you don't have an IT degree to be able to nominate an IT ANZCO for Migration

But if you are looking at Employee Sponsor, their HR team will guide you better.

Thanks for replying. ACS did not say that my experience is irrelevant. They just mentioned that my experience has been assessed as positive as a Computer Network and Systems Engineer but I can claim points for experience after 11 July 2019.
For 186, I need 3 years of experience which is a requirement of the visa. Can I still use my overseas experience in my nominated occupation to meet the requirement?

I mean does this 3 year requirement depends solely on the skill assessment outcome?

Yes, presumably it would be 3 years of relevant experience post-11 July 2019 - i.e. the date you are deemed skilled by ACS.

So the earliest you would qualify for the 186 DE stream would be 12 July 2022 - assuming you have been working continuously since then in a role that is closely related to your eligible occupation.

You could always confirm with a MARA agent, here is one that offers a free first consultation:
