Default Surname blank: Indian passport- how to get it corrected?

Hi everyone,
As the title suggests, my surname is blank and my "given name" field is ABC DEF in my Indian passport. In my PR also, my first name is ABC DEF and last name as blank.
All my certificates from India show my name as ABC DEF. (They don't come with a "first name", "surname" fields distinction per se).

My company is sending me to the US, so I assume this might cause an issue with the US visa. I am planning on getting it corrected in my passport. So if anyone who knows something would be kind enough to clarify some of the issues:

1. Will this cause an issue with my PR?
2. How do I get it updated to immigration authorities in Australia AFTER my name has been corrected in my passport? (Like Given name as "ABC" and surname as "DEF").
3. Would I need to do a name change with the Indian passport authorities or a simple correction would do? (As my other Indian ID displays ABC DEF without any distinction b/w first and surname as such).
4. How can I do this from Melbourne, if its possible at all? (Indian embassy or VFS)
5. Would this really be necessary or I can go to the US with my surname blank?

Thanks so much for reading all this!
