Default Keen to find a 3 month life in sydney

We are interested in tasting the life in Australia and online I can find furnished shorter term lets from around 120$ per night
I am sure we can do better than that.
I am trying to cost out what 3 months would cost us given we couldn't work.
We would value some cost of living estimates for a month given we are a couple with a toddler.
If we like it can we apply for a visa to work while in Australia.
I'm a front end developer and my partner is an hr consultant.
Thanks

You could try some rental agencies to see if they do short term lets but most of them do 6 months at a time.

Try Airbnb.com or Gumtree.com.au.

Just as an aside, it is not as easy as showing up to Australia, staying for a couple months and then if you like it, get a work visa. Most tourist visas have a "no further stay" condition which requires you to leave after your visa is up. If you do manage to find an employer who can sponsor you for a visa, you will still have to leave the country to lodge the visa application and then return after the visa is granted.

Based on your professions, it might be possible to apply for a General Skilled Migration visa, which would allow you to stay in Australia permanently. But you would still need to lodge the application overseas and the process takes several months (at least) and costs several thousand dollars.

Yes of course it's not easy. I wanted to give context to our case without writing too much.
Thanks for your links I will take a look but I still don't know what a weekly shop might cost - anyone feel like posting their weekly totals.

To go to the expense and even if it is possible to get a visa before getting to know Australia today seems wrong I feel many have done it from a tourist student or working visa.

They have but the system has changed recently. Previously you lodged for a visa straight from current visa and were given a bridging visa to stay.

Now you lodge an Expression Of Interest and then wait for an invite. If your toursit is still valid where you get that invite AND when you apply great you get bridging visa. If it has expired before invite you leve the country and wait for your invite and apply wherever you are.

Given you would need a skills assessment, IELTS, police checks etc all that can take time.
