Moving to Brisbane Soon... moving advice
I'm moving to Brisbane in January on a 457 Visa. To start off with I'll be in Milton, then perhaps a FIFO or residency at a Mine Sight.

I'm at a loss on what to do with my personal belongs. Could someone share their experiences?

The company will move my belongs over there, but I'm not sure if it is worth it. I'm sure I'll have to pay taxes in some form or another (which might be over the value of the stuff).

Would it be better to bring everything in hopes I'll love it and never want to come back. Bring almost nothing and buy all new/used over there... or somewhere inbetween (which is what I'm thinking about right now).

Right now I'm thinking about bring my queen bed, love seat and chairs, TV (it will work in 220V/50hz) and a few books, clothes and personal trinkets. Then stick the rest of the stuff in storage in the US.

We're looking at the same thing. Still haven't made the final decision as we're working out the company's offer to move from Milwaukee to Brisbane.

I think we'll probably move some things and store the rest. When we go over in a few weeks for a visit we'll spend some time looking at the cost of replacing things and use that info to make a better decision.

Good Luck!

Hi SandBuiltDreams,

We got rid of everything that was really ancient but brought things like bed bases (the mattresses needed replacing anyway) and a few other bits.

However we knew that we weren't going back to the UK so everything was either sold, given to charity shops or listed on freecycle.
