Default Son returning to home country to study so where does he stand visa wise?

We are a family of 6 who moved to ozz recently but it hasn't worked out educationally for our 17 year old son. He is returning home to finish his secondary education from sept ., till June next year but returning to ozz where possible, and back to us once his exams are compleat by which time he will just be turned 18. What if any are any visa implications for him? We are all under my husbands 457 visa , would we need to apply for PR to safeguard his eligibility to return to us ?

Whilst the 457 is valid he is free to come and go as he pleases but if you are applying for PR and want him to be on it you have to apply whilst he is still studying.
He will only be granted PR as dependent if he is still dependent ie in education, not working, not in a defacto relationship and fully dependent on you for his needs. Easy when under 18 but becomes difficult past that. His studying outside of Australia shouldn't make any difference so long as you are still paying for his upkeep etc.
