Everyone I've spoken to who has been loves Australia, but the common reply is that it is very expensive to live there.

How expensive is it? What do you need to earn to have a good lifestyle for a family of 4 (assuming renting).
Would probably like to live in a more rural area in a house, I've had enough of city centre and apartments...

Thanks,
Jon
100K AUD per year is minimum you need .... although people manage with 70-80K yearly as well but that depends on your lifestyle. With 100K AUD and family of 4, there won't be much savings though .....
Beyond this sky is the limit ..... rural areas might be bit cheaper in terms of rent BUT not drastically cheaper.
