Bogus agents claim to be connected to the UKBA

British immigration officials are warning that unscrupulous agents are working in the visa industry in Thailand and Vietnam who claim to be connected to the UK Border Agency.

The agents are also claiming that they are connected with VFS Global, the UKBA’s commercial partner.

A UKBA spokesman said that visa applicants should be aware and carry out checks and that officials are unable to make any guarantees on the success of a UK visa application through these agents.

‘When submitting visa applications you should ensure that you are dealing with a genuine employee of VFS or UK Border Agency staff. You should note that you will not be asked to pay money to book an appointment with the visa application centre and you will receive an official receipt for payment of your visa fee and any other additional services requested,’ the spokesman said.

‘You will not be asked to forward any additional payment after your visa application has been submitted. The UK Border Agency and VFS Global can take no responsibility for events which take place outside their offices,’ he added.

UKBA has also announced that from next Monday, 01 October 2012, the length of time that any application completed online in the UK will be held in a customer account changes to eight weeks.

The change also applies to the online application process where applicants enter their details and then print and send a paper application.

‘In all cases, we will email you to advise the 10 day countdown period has started before deleting your online application. If you wish to keep a copy of your application for your own record, you are advised to print a copy or save to your local computer,’ the spokesman explained.

He added that each time an applicant access their application the eight week period will begin again and there is no limit on how many times this can happen.
